Minutes of January 11, 2010
Speaker: Victoria (Tory) Kes, Optima Natural
Health and Wellness, LLC
Topic: Chiropractics 101

Tory, a new member of
Cumberland Kiwanis, presented an introduction to the practice of chiropractics
and an overview of the services provided by her clinic. The services include a wide range of
treatments including basic chiropractic adjustments, physiotherapies,
rehabilitation therapy, nutrition, and acupuncture. She noted that all practitioners go through a similar basic
education and then often pursue personal approaches.
She then demonstrated a
number of treatments with Kiwanis President Deb Kunferman. She checked such factors as leg length
and hip joint alignment, checking for any muscle tenderness. Typically, treatments are 30 minutes
with subsequent home exercise and follow-up. Message is used to relax tense muscles. Finally, she demonstrated electric
muscle stimulation to relax muscles prior to adjustments.
The object of chiropractic
treatment according to Ms. Kes is to deal with the ÒrootÓ cause of problems,
rather than just treating symptoms.
Ms. Kes responded to a number
of follow-up questions, including the use a acupuncture, which is done by a
member of her staff.
