John Lucivansky

Speaker:  John Lucivansky, National Football League Official

Topic:  Becoming a Successful NFL Game Official

Mr. Lucivansky traced his path to becoming a regular NFL official.  John has lived in this area for some time and is currently a school principal in New Richmond.  Over the years he gained extensive experience as a referee in several sports, working his way up to the BigTen and bowl games such as the Fiesta Bowl and Orange Bowl.  Last year he was picked to be a line judge by the NFL.

He then enumerated the qualities that spell success in the NFL.  He stressed personal responsibility.  Other qualities included finding good models to follow, performance under adversity, teamwork, respect for authority and positive life style.  He ended with a quote:  No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care.

Several questions were asked regarding his future prospects and the possibility of full time football officials.  John noted that many officials are already in effect full time.  There are 17 crews of officials in the NFL and John hopes to continue with his present crew this fall.
