Speakers: Corey Graf
Topic: A Proposed Skatepark for Cumberland
Corey presented an overview
of efforts to create a skate park for the city of Cumberland. To date, he has obtained over 400
signatures of support for the project on Facebook. He hopes that matching fund for the project might come from
the city and/or the school district.
A location has yet to be
determined. One possibility would
be opposite the Dairy Queen. A
committee is working on funding and finding a suitable site. Recently, a group of youngsters came up
with a model for a possible design.
Having checked with the city,
Corey noted that no additional liability insurance would be required for the
park. In fact, studies have shown
that sports such as football, soccer, baseball, and even cheerleading have more
injuries.
In response to questions, he
noted that development costs could range from $150k to $450k. Finally, he noted that the April 2005
featured an article on skateboarding entitled ÒLet Ôem Ride!Ó
