Topic: Property Tax 101
Ms. Ritchie provided an
overview of how taxes are assessed in Barron County. She has been with the TreasurerÕs Office for 31years, as
Treasurer the last seven.
Currently, both the County
and the City each receive about 30% of their income from property taxes. In the State, about 21% of the total
tax goes to city governance, 41% to schools, 8% to technical colleges.
A sample tax statement was
projected on the screen and given an overview/explanation by Ms. Ritchie. She noted the Òfirst dollar creditÓ
from the school district of $71.58 and from the State lottery of $81.66.
